A found object steampunk style necklace containing items discovered on my travels, including a replica Greek coin featuring Athena's Owl, vintage light bulb and antique key.
I love making necklace assemblages repurposing treasures I find whilst hunting antique fairs and car boot sales. This necklace features a replica of a "tetradrachm" (Greek: τετράδραχμον, tetrádrakhmon) which was an Ancient Greek silver coin in wide circulation from c. 510 to c. 38 BC.
The Athenian tetradrachm has amazing detail and is stamped with the head of Athena on the obverse, and on the reverse the image of the owl of Athena, the iconographic symbol of the Athenian polis, with a sprig of olive and a crescent for the moon. In Greek mythology, a little owl (Athene noctua) traditionally accompanies Athena, the virgin goddess of wisdom, representing insight, strength and intelligence. I have paired this special stamped coin with an antique key and a vintage miniature light bulb which all hang from a sterling silver twisted ring in the style of a chatelaine, popular during the 19th Century. An intriguing gift for anyone fond of archaeological finds and hidden treasures.
The coin is 2.3 cm wide and has a nice weight to it. It sits on a sterling silver chain in a length to suit you. For a handy guide to choosing the right necklace length, please visit
