A small sprig of cedar has been electroformed in copper decorated with a handmade abalone shell cabachon and oxidised for a deep lutre. This one of a kind pendant would make a thoughtful 7th wedding anniversary present or a gift for a gardener.
I'm always on the look out for organic treasures from Mother Nature to use in my work and this small sprig of cedar seemed ideal for preserving in my copper cauldron through a technique called electroforming. Electroforming is when electricity and copper converge in a electrolyte solution and are magically drawn to an organic item that has been sealed in a conductive paint.
Once the item was encapsulated in the first layer of copper, I included a small abalone shell dot, usually found on a guitar fret which I have domed with resin. It was then put back into the copper cauldron to ensure a nice thick copper coating to protect the cedar specimen. Once finished, I then treated the pendant to a deep oxidisation to highlight the textures and polished it further to let some of the beautiful copper tones shine through. It is completed with two layers of jewellery grade lacquer to maintain its natural lustre.
All of the treasures I use in my creations have been collected with the utmost thought and consideration.
The pendant measures about 4 cm tall and about 2 cm wide. Available on an antiqued copper chain in a choice of lengths. For a handy guide to choosing the right necklace length for you, please visit:
