Dainty Tin Earrings - Enchanting, upcycled red Toleware pattern earrings created from an old vintage tin tea box that (being a little worse for wear in places), was destined for land-fill. A perfect gift for anyone on their 10th anniversary.
Using a hammer and punch, I've saved the beautiful orange flowers, rose and green leaves from an old Toleware tin and cut into dainty teardrop shapes.
Tole painting is a form of folk art and the term tôle is derived from the French tôle peinte, "painted sheet metal" in which stenciling and gilding often features, although rarely on a red background. This form of folk art gained popularity in 18th century New England with tôle painting being used on shades for bouilotte lamps, trays and lidded canisters. It is now more commonly associated with Canal Barge Art and can often be seen adorning narrow boats and gypsy caravans.
Each hand cut tole flower teardrop is a petite 2 cm long (overall drop length 5 cm), filed and sanded by hand and then given a protective coat of coconut oil. They are finished with tiny facet cut turquoise Czech glass beads which have been wire wrapped in Sterling Silver. They hang on sterling silver earring wires which have been hammered for strength.
