Pair of earrings created from an old tin, destined for landfill that feature a delicate blue bird design and sweet orange flowers.
From my collection of vintage tins, picked up from flea markets, vintage shops and car boot sales, I've selected a rather battered Huntley & Palmers biscuit tin in order to turn the beautiful illustrations into earrings. The design on this tin, from the British makers of biscuits since 1822, was a beautiful Chinese inspired painting featuring blue birds, dragons and pretty trees and flowers.
For these dangly earrings, I have used the bird motif cut into an oval shape and finished it with a charming orange flower panel at the base which tinkles delicately as they're worn. They are decorated with Czech glass turquoise beads and soft pink natural pearls on sterling silver wires. An enchanting gift for anyone who is fond of nature or who may be celebrating their 10th Wedding anniversary.
As you can imagine, this tin is many years old and each panel has been cleaned carefully and sanded to remove sharp edges. The reverse of the assemblage earrings are rustic as in keeping with the age of the artifact used. They measure 7 cm from the top of the kidney wire to the base of the earring and the oval measures 3 cm x 2.2 cm.
