“Although bees visit these crops for pollen, they can produce without bee pollination because in most cases wind will provide sufficient pollination. But the presence of bees has been shown to significantly increase seed set in combination with wind effects” – (Soderstrom and Calderon 1971; Adams et al. 1981).
Inspired by the effects our bee population has on seed production in nature, I have created these artefact earrings showcasing the beauty of our furry insect friend and great work they do to sustain our environment.
Brass cold metal cast earrings featuring a bee within an ornate frame with Czech glass purple rainbow bead and Tibetan Fair Trade hollow metal bead in the shape of a seed.
By making a silicone mold of an antique broken brooch, I am able to cold metal cast artefact replicas in concentrated brass powders within a resin carrier. This sustains all of the beautiful detail of the original object and I am able to polish the brass molecules to a shine, as if pure metal. This makes for a relatively lightweight earring (5.17g each) that ties in with the Fair Trade Tibetan metal hollow bead that has the shape of a seed.
