“It was all very well for an Englishman like Mr. Fogg to make the tour of the world with a carpet-bag; a lady could not be expected to travel comfortably under such conditions” – Jules Verne – Around the World in Eighty Days (1873).

The hot air balloon is the oldest successful human-carrying flight technology and was invented in 1783. King Louis XVI had originally decreed that condemned criminals would be the first pilots, but de Rozier (the second to man a balloon flight), along with Marquis François d’Arlandes, petitioned successfully for the honour.

Now that it is acceptable for everyone to travel by any means they see fit, I have created this turquoise balloons pendant to accompany you on your journey to the ends of the Earth whilst you seek out many new adventures.

I have created this very small miniature hot air balloon charm using a hand blown hollow turquoise and yellow striped glass bead with vintage wicker basket and pumpkin style bead cap. The hot air balloon is dainty at just 1.9 cm wide and 6 cm tall including the twisted jump ring. At the base it a turquoise green Czech glass bead and two vintage watch part cogs. The glass bead is hand blown, so has imperfections you would expect from hand-blown glass. It hangs elegantly from an antiqued bronze chain in your choice of lengths.
