Discovered at the bottom of a dusty cardboard box at a flea market, this exquisite miniature Persian hand-painted artwork on bone showcases a centuries-old technique. I’ve transformed it into a unique necklace, pairing it with a charming cascade of tiny, hand-painted wooden animals suspended from its base. The chain is strung with a blend of frosted amazonite stones and intricately carved bone beads, adding texture and colour in soft shades of blue, orange, and sand.
Among my recent finds is a rare, hand-painted carved bone vignette—one side depicting a finely dressed man seated in a yoga pose amidst lush scenery, the reverse revealing a vibrant exotic bird. This miniature artwork originates from the Qajar era and was most likely brought to England as a treasured souvenir.

Persian miniature painting, which flourished as a major art form in the 13th century under Mongol influence, reached its zenith in the 15th and 16th centuries. The tradition continues to this day, with artists using brushes crafted from cat hair or pigeon feathers to achieve extraordinary detail.
To complement the piece, I added a playful dangle featuring a rustic wooden elephant, zebra, camel, tiger, and lions—each meticulously painted—along with delicate bells repurposed from a broken Tibetan chain.
The necklace is completed with wire-wrapped amazonite and carved bone beads, accented with repurposed elements from a vintage Kuchi necklace. I’ve soldered a custom hook on one end and added an extender dangle on the other, allowing for adjustable wear. The piece measures approximately 15 inches and can be worn shorter. If you’d prefer a custom length, just drop me a message—I’m happy to adjust it for you.
